How the money will be used

When you select “No preference,” your donation goes where it’s needed most — helping us cover day-to-day costs and respond to priorities as they arise. For larger projects, unrestricted donations are often pooled together to make a bigger impact.

You can also choose to support a specific project from the dropdown menu, and your donation will go directly to that cause.

Our General Museum Fund supports a wide range of work across the site, including tram restoration, infrastructure maintenance, new exhibits, archive projects, street developments, and improvements to areas like the Woodland Walk and picnic spaces.

Access Tram 2 — Help Us Build a Tram for Everyone

We’re raising £150,000 to create a fully accessible heritage tram at National Tramway Museum — a first of its kind in the UK.

Following the retirement of our original Access Tram, we’re transforming Centenary tram 645 (generously donated by Blackpool Transport Services) into “Access Tram 2.” Once complete, it will feature a heavy-duty wheelchair lift, reinstated electronics, and new accessibility features — with space for families and larger groups to ride together.

Over a sixth of our visitors self-identify as disabled or less able, and this tram will ensure everyone can experience every part of the museum. It could even open up the possibility of wheelchair users driving a heritage tram under supervision — a UK first.

How you can help: Donate via the form above, support our Crowdfunder, or try the Derby Community Lottery for a chance to win cash prizes while backing the project.

Foundations First at Crich

Supported by a £88,080 National Lottery Heritage Fund grant, “Foundations First” is a 2025 project helping us plan for the future. We’re gathering audience insights, developing a new business plan, improving our retail and online shop offer, and strengthening how we recruit, support, and retain our volunteers.

Leaving a Legacy
