Glasgow Corporation Transport No. 812: 125 Years Old

Glasgow 812 was built as an open-topped tram in 1900 and entered service in July of that year, making it 125 years old in July 2025. After 60 years of reliable operation as part of the Glasgow fleet, it was withdrawn from service in the summer of 1960. Shortly afterwards it was moved to Crich Tramway, arriving on 13th August 1960. This means that the tram has spent longer in its adopted ‘preservation’ home than it did in Glasgow! For much of that period, Glasgow 812 has formed part of the operational fleet at Crich. However, it was withdrawn in 2015 for a much-needed overhaul.

To mark Glasgow 812’s 125th birthday, we have put together a photographic celebration of its years at Crich. Many of these photos have been taken by visitors to Crich Tramway and previously published on the internet.

With thanks to Museum Volunteer Jim Dignan for putting this collection of photos together.
