The ancient and noble art of letterpress printing is still practised at the Eagle Press.
This method of printing was invented by Johannes Gutenberg in Germany circa 1440, enabling books to be printed using single letters cast in lead. William Caxton introduced the process to England in 1476.
Although no longer used commercially a number of private presses and museums still use and demonstrate this method including the Eagle Press at Crich Tramway Village.
We need volunteers to continue preserving this ancient art and would like to invite anybody who may have worked in printing, graphic design or is just curious as to what is involved.
