There have been various infrastructure checks and up-grades, which have required us to move the trams around recently.
A new fire alarm system has been installed in the depots and workshop by O.Heap. The installation of the new fire alarm system is part of the continued upgrade of the tram depots, which will help to ensure the safe keeping of the trams, volunteers, staff and public.
The previous installation of new doors and roofing on the depots has solved the previous damp issue.
Photos (courtesy of Peter Whiteley) show images of some of the trams which were moved in the process.
Leeds 345 is in regular operation during each season.
The trams enjoying a brief outside spell, included Blackpool 762, Prague 180 and Glasgow 1068 which are awaiting attention in the workshops before being considered for a return to service in the future.
Those not in operation, but providing a better view inside the depots included Sheffield 189 and Glasgow 1282 (shown below).
Angus, from the Outside Works Team, has been busy over the winter checking and repairing the overhead line, with help from some of our volunteers driving and monitoring the Tower Wagon. The next stage was to engage external engineering service company, Pod-Trak, to check the work and sign it off for use for this season. They were busing this week doing just that, as shown in the photographs below.
There is still some tram commissioning work, track checking and cleaning to do and general external tidying up, but we are excited to be opening for, what we hope will be, a very positive new season, with a great events programme. We look forward to welcoming new and past visitors!
