Sunday 15th August – James Shillabeer
My name is James Shillabeer. I am 15 years old, and currently a marshal and trainee conductor at the museum.
I’m originally from Corby, Northamptonshire, but have lived in Derbyshire most of my life.
From a very young age, I have always loved visiting the museum. As soon as possible, I knew I wanted to start helping out. Myself, and my best friend from school, Andrew Hanbury, became very regular visitors together, as well as Junior Members, from 2018, and our enthusiasm was quickly picked up by many volunteers, who all went out of their way to help us on our journey, to having our first official roles of Marshals in 2020.
I love volunteering, as, not only do I enjoy every moment that I’m at Crich, but I know I’m gaining skills and knowledge that’ll help me in the future.
Inside of the museum, I hope to be able to pass my conductor assessment and, hopefully, one day, become a Conductor Trainer, then a Driver, and Driving trainer, etc.
Outside of the museum, I hope to work my way up to becoming a Chemical Engineer.
